Pineywoods Artisan Collective Quilting Competition Rules

Entry & Eligibility

  1. Open to all ages and experience levels.
  2. Entrants may submit any number of quilts (no limit).
  3. Entry fee is $15 for the first quilt, and $5 for each additional quilt.
  4. Quilts must be the original work of the entrant.
  5. Antique or heirloom family quilts are permitted for exhibition and judging.
  6. Purchased or commercially produced quilts may not be submitted.
  7. Collaborative quilts are allowed if all contributors are acknowledged on the entry form.
  8. Registration deadline is October 16th (day before event).

 

Quilt Requirements

  1. All quilts must be completed, consisting of three (3) layers: backing, batting, and top. (Exceptions to this include yo-yo quilts, cathedral-window style quilts, and crazy quilts.) NO UNFINISHED TOPS MAY BE ENTERED.
  2. Quilts may be any size but must be clean and free of odors, pet hair, or loose threads.
  3. Quilts may be machine-quilted or hand-quilted, method must be indicated. Quilts that have been long armed will be considered to be machine quilted.
  4. Each quilt must have a label or tag securely attached on the back with entrant’s name, quilt title, and year completed. This may consist of a card that is pinned to the back
  5. Hanging sleeves are encouraged for display purposes.

 

Drop-Off & Exhibition

  1. Quilts must be dropped off Friday morning, October 17th at the designated check-in area.
  2. All quilts will remain on display for the duration of the showcase.
  3. Staff and volunteers will ensure that visitors do not touch or handle any quilts.
  4. Quilts entered may be listed and advertised for sale, but must remain on display until judging is complete and awards have been announced.

 

Judging

  1. Quilts will be judged in two categories: Machine quilted and hand quilted. 
  2. Judging criteria will include:
    1. Design & Creativity
    2. Workmanship & Technique
    3. Use of Color & Fabric Choices
    4. Overall Visual Impact
    5. Judges’ decisions are final.

 

Awards

  1. Prizes/ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division
  2. There will be one quilt to be selected as Best of Show.
